GCSE GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE ACTIVITIES KS4 GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE ACTIVITIES KS3 GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE CARDS 100 QUESTION AND ANSWER PAIRED SPEAKING PRACTICE CARDS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be amended, copied, rewritten, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. With structured speaking prompts, students are able to develop confidence in their German speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of German grammar too. There are 50 questions with 50 suggested responses, so 100 cards in total. The questions range in complexity and content. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. There are several games and activities that my students enjoy, and I’ve described them for you to try with yours. The questions are aimed at advanced beginner German to intermediate German learners, though my advanced German students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This set of Spanish conversation translation worksheets is a companion activity to Spanish Conversation Starters 1, though it works just as well as a standalone translation exercise for***advanced beginner Spanish*** and intermediate Spanish students. The content mirrors that of the conversation starters, and really does help students consolidate and embed essential advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish language across all key language skills. All the sentences are in question format. There are 200 translation questions in total: 100 from Spanish to English, and then repeated from English to Spanish. Translation is a specific skill that students need to work on carefully and gradually as they progress in their language learning. It’s quite common for beginner language learners to attempt to translate word for word from their first / home language, and though this will work occasionally, it frequently leads to errors. I remind students that there can be several ways to translate correctly: the important thing is to be sure that the original intent and meaning of the question is replicated in the translation. We discuss a range of possible translations, both into Spanish and into English, as a whole-group, which is a really popular and successful language learning activity. I always include dual translation, that is from Spanish to English, and then from English to Spanish, as this really encourages students to think about language, and to be creative with it. The translations broadly address the following themes: = personal information = family & routines at home = hobbies & free time = likes & dislikes = local environment = food & drink = school & studies = sport & healthy living = countries & languages = weather & seasons Have a look at these related Spanish Conversation resources: SPANISH 10 CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-conversation-starters-freebie-12999464 SPANISH 100 CONVERSATION STARTERS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-conversation-starters-1-12898239 SPANISH CONVERSATION STARTERS & TRANSLATION WORKSHEETS MINI-BUNDLE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-conversation-starters-and-translation-1-12999527 Have a browse in my store for more Spanish resources, with special offer bundles, Spanish resource boxes, and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

Please read the Terms of Use. 198 matching French and English games cards with a reference, recall and write workbook, focusing on 99 beginner French words and phrases. The target vocabulary is in the following vocabulary groups: salutations : jours de la semaine : mois et les saisons de l’année : nombres 0-20 : ma famille : mots fréquents : français pour la salle de classe :questions et réponses My students really like to work independently, in pairs and in small groups, and these vocabulary cards enable them to do that. There are lots of games and activities to play, and I’ve described several that are successful with my groups. Giving students regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards is really effective, and not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocabulary themes, but also across the school year, and even when they’re far more advanced in their learning - all learners benefit from going back to the start. Varying teaching and learning methodologies in the languages classroom is really important, and these cards enable students to learn entirely independently. There’s definitely some prep involved - printing, laminating and cutting out - laminating is certainly worth the effort, as the cards are a lot more learner-friendly, and do last for years. Students don’t have to play with full sets - they can work with selected vocabulary groups. The 18-page workbook gives students a different way of consolidating their vocabulary - writing it out really helps to embed language, and is great for spelling too. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English vocab list, which works well as a longer-term reference resource too. Students are able to apply their French creatively and practically with the games cards template. = Written Recall Challenge 1: students write the English word /phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge 2: with this challenge, students write the words/phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge 3: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. FRENCH EUROPE COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES FRENCH CROSS-CURRICULAR LEARNING EUROPE TWO MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUIZZES IDEAL FOR THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES TOO Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The produce is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their French language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their French vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge. The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through. There are two quiz challenges: Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from. Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries . The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. They may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. This ESL English resource box is ideal for beginner English, advanced beginner English into intermediate English students. There are 5 resources, each for £1, featuring active, differentiated, multi-skill and independent learning activities. Some of the resources overlap various learning stages, though I’ve found that students, regardless of age or stage, often benefit from, and genuinely enjoy, working with activities that are primarily designed for other ability or knowledge stages. This may be either as practice and revision, or as additional or more accessible and manageable challenge. These factors are all key to motivating learners to engage with, and progress in, a new language. There’s certainly prep work involved with some of the resources – I always laminate my language and task cards for example, as they’re much more easy to manipulate, and so far more learner-friendly. They do however last in excellent condition for years, so for me, laminating is definitely worth the prep time and extra expense. You don’t have to prepare them all at once – the resources are definitely useful for the longer-term, so you can take your time with the prep, focusing on what you’re working with at any specific stage. This set of French Conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate French to advanced French students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on si + imperfect + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as agreement with preceding direct object, use of the subjunctive and so on. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners. The starters broadly address the following themes: music, film & television literature & culture : personal life, information & preferences : leisure & free time : health & well-being : history & society recent & current events : travel, tourism & holidays : technology & social media : likes & dislikes : local environment : environmental & social issues : education & studies Have a look at these sets of French conversation starters: 10 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-freebie-12903468 100 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-1-12849020 200 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS BUNDLE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-bundle-1-12903680 Have a browse in my store for more French resources, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. I generally work with telling the time in French quite quickly with my beginner French students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example. There are two questions: Quelle heure est-il ? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Vrai ou faux ? and students write either vrai or faux - where the answer is faux, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation. The set comprises the following non-editable files: = 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper = answer key & recording sheet Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
